Of course that Russia had a first move advantage. Most of their territorial gains were made in the first weeks. And now they have had time to consolidate so the counteroffensive is more difficult.

Does your analysis include the US coup and replacement of the democratically elected president of Ukraine with a pro-West puppet back in 2014 and how the Eastern regions of Ukraine then decided they would rather live under Russian rule vs a US/EU puppet? Or how this invasion was triggered by the attempted expansion of NATO into Ukraine? Those are important facts not to be left out.

I love your videos but I feel like you left one of, if not the most, important details that started this entire war. That would be the USA funding, arming and training another terrorist organization to create a coupe and overthrowing the current government. Putin would happily accept an agreement with Ukraine, because he gained everything and lost nothing he wasn't already willing to lose at the expense of everyone on either side.
Giving him what he wants is just as idiotic as what Chamberlain did in the late 30s, giving Hitler what he wanted for a useless agreement.
Pandering to, and giving in to Putin for the sake of peace will only give him the breathing space he needs to put himself in a better position to try again, and show other Autocratic leaders that they can just take what they want, whenever they feel they want it.
Unfortunately, this means we need to stand up to him, even at the cost of lives and resources.
Yes, I don't think Putin is necessarily irrational for starting the war. But he was (and probably continues to be) extremely misinformed because he fostered an environment where he gets told what he wants to get told. Garbage in, garbage out. That's why he appears irrational at times, because he exists in a bubble very different from the rest of us.
Indeed I do see one other cause. You forgot ideology.
Putin and the predominance of Russian people want their power back- much like WW2 Germany under Hitler. Russians seem to look back at the old union with fawning eyes, thinking that it was better to be feared than loved- and Russia was feared. They seem to forget, under the gentle agreement that the Russian's should leave politics to Putin, that the most fearful people of the Soviet Union were its citizens!
But as the war drags on, Russians will learn that one comes with the other. The more powerful the government, the less freedoms of its people- this will be proven again as Russia cracks down.
SO there is this ideological desire on the part of those much over 30 to "return to the time when Russia was powerful." Whereas youth chafes already at the control of Putin.
Right now, there is little pain felt by the over 30 crowd in Russia. But with the numbers of dead and wounded involved, even Putin can't hide it forever. In Afghanistan, there were no cell phones. But in Ukraine, there certainly are.
It remains to be seen when this will all end. I am sure that the population of Siberia grows daily- just as it did under the Soviet Union.
The one way it won't end is by an external power invading Russia.
I think the best way it will end, is if Putin fails to wake up one morning- much like Stalin.

No ; Obama and Biden (vice president) funded paramilitaries to assassinate Yanukovych in 2014. And ; having miraculously survived, ; fled to Russia to consider his options. And, after doing so declared he was still Ukraine president ; and, would return. Obama and Biden installed Poroshenko by coup before he could do so. So now ; Ukraine have succeeded in having their pro European president albeit they are now their pro Obama/Biden American president. So as agreed between Poroshenko and his American masters (controllers), he had to agree to wage war o Donbas Russians as a prerequisite to receiving American funding and the resulting installation into the Ukraine presidency. He had agreed with Joe Biden and Obama that he would accept all arms and weapons supplied to the paramilitaries to wage war on Russia via their citizens in the Donbas. They killed nearly 20,000 Russians AND Ukrainians between 2014 (when Poroshenko assumed presidency) and when president Putin sent in his troops to protect the slaughter of his fellow Russians living in the Donbas regions.
"Separatists claim their independence" – BUT WHY ? Maybe you should explain that first and not make it simple as possible . The most important reason that the war began in 2022 was not Donbas only but plans to join NATO by Ukraine , beside that Majdan has been sponsored by U.S Gov. – is it something new to you ?
